Yields : 12 doughnuts
Prep Time : 20 minutes
Rest Time : 1 hour
Cook Time : 15 minutes
Total Time : 1 hour 35 minutes
Ingredients :
Doughnuts :
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
2 tbsp granulated sugar
½ tsp salt
1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
¾ cup whole milk, warmed
1 large egg, room temperature
2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
Oil for frying
Glaze :
2 cups powdered sugar
¼ cup whole milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions :
1. Make the Dough :
In a small bowl, combine yeast and warm milk. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Add egg, melted butter, and the yeast mixture. Knead until a smooth dough forms (about 5 minutes).
Cover the bowl with a towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
2. Shape the Doughnuts :
Punch down the dough and roll it out to about ½ inch thickness.
Cut dough using a doughnut cutter or two round cutters (one for the outer circle, one for the hole).
Place the doughnuts on a baking sheet and let rise for another 30 minutes.
3. Fry the Doughnuts :
In a large pot, heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry the doughnuts in batches until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side.
Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
4. Make the Glaze :
In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
Dip each doughnut in the glaze while still warm. Place on a wire rack to set.
5. Serve :
Enjoy warm or store in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
